CoPilot Live guiding the way in Beantown

This past weekend I ventured to Boston, MA for a little retreat in the beautiful city.  Not being very familiar with the city I made sure my CoPilot Live was packed—which is easy to do as it’s conveniently located on my iPhone and fits in my pocket!  I thought I’d share a little of my experience with CoPilot Live guiding my way.  Perhaps you’ll find it useful for your next excursion.

You can pretty much stick to walking when enjoying the sites in Boston, so CoPilot Live’s walking mode with turn-by-turn directions and pedestrian-specific routing was extremely useful.  Wherever you stay in Boston, an array of pubs are in walking distance, so I made sure to use the Save Current Location feature at my hotel so I could always find my way back!

One of the must-sees in Boston is the Freedom Trail—a walking tour that leads you through 16 historical sites.   If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it.  A wonderful benefit of having CoPilot Live along was no matter where I was in the city; I could search and locate anything I needed.   No need to stop and ask for directions.  This proved useful for a caffeine pit stop mid- tour.  I used Live Local Search to quickly locate a nearby “Dunkin Donuts” (my favorite) and CoPilot Live guided me straight there.  I had remembered to Save Current Location before I veered off the trail so a quick tap on Favourites—where the GPS coordinates were stored—and I was back on the trail.

I’m a sporadic traveler so I didn’t plan a dinner spot ahead of time.  I searched CoPilot Live’s immense Points of Interest (POI) database and found a suitable restaurant in the area.  Being that I was in Boston, I was in the mood for some New England Clam Chowder so I selected “Seafood” and perused the list of choices.  After settling on “Union Oyster House” I used CoPilot Live to preview the route, which quickly led me to believe that walking there was not an option!  So I switched to auto mode, checked my trip time and called directly from within CoPilot Live to make a reservation.

After a short flight back to New Jersey I jumped in my car ready to get home, only to realize I had $1.50 left in my wallet.  No problem.  After setting my Destination to Home, I tapped Show Route and in Options selected “Always Avoid Tolls”.  Within the hour I was home, with $1.50 still in my wallet and no time spent on the NJ Turnpike!

Copilot Live definitely made my journey smoother and most important when it comes to traveling—stress free.  I couldn’t have asked for a better travel companion (besides my husband of course!)

A very useful feature that is often overlooked in CoPilot Live is the Shortcut button.   With the Shortcut button you can easily and quickly switch between commonly used navigation options.   Stopped at a light and want to see what you’re next upcoming turns are?  Switch to Itinerary view.  Decided to finish out the trip on foot?  Switch to Walking Mode.

Tips and Tricks: Save Current Location feature

While traveling have you ever wanted to return to a specific location – only to realize you can’t quite remember the way?

It might be that perfect little restaurant tucked away on a back street or a secret hideaway cove away from the main beach. You might find it again…eventually. Or you’ll have to settle for something that just isn’t nearly as good.

Well with CoPilot Live, you have the perfect tool to find your way back to your newly discovered favorite spot.  Our ‘Save Current Location’ feature saves the exact GPS coordinates to guide you straight back to the location.   By using GPS coordinates rather than address details, it doesn’t matter how near or remote it happens to be.

To use the feature:   Go to MENU > Save Current Location, enter the name of the location and hit OK

Note:  In the MENU, use the blue arrows in the bottom right corner to navigate to the 2nd screen of MENU options

A record of the location will then be saved to your ‘Favourites’ menu.  Now you’ll have guidance back to your favorite spot whenever you want—whether it is the next day, the next month or even the next year!

Mobile World Congress 2010 – a few highlights

This week’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona has seen a number of eye-catching announcements. Here’s a quick round-up of some of the things that we found particularly interesting.

Windows Phone – 7 Series Microsoft finally broke cover with the public announcement of their forthcoming mobile OS – Windows Phone 7 Series. More of a preview than a full launch, it seems that Microsoft are at last likely to make-up some ground lost to the iPhone in the consumer mobile space, particularly in terms of usability, entertainment and aesthetics. We’ve always been fans of Windows Mobile – after all CoPilot Live was first launched on the platform – and it’s great to see it turning heads with some long-overdue innovation. Enjoy the sites while visiting Vancouver

If you’re heading to Vancouver for the Winter Games, there’s a lot more than the Games to see while you’re there.  Many attractions in Vancouver are free and not far from the venues in the city and the nearby mountains.  And if you packed your CoPilot Live, then you have your own personal travel guide ready to show you around the city!

Vancouver is a great walking city, with charming shops and cafes, museums and galleries everywhere.  Not only can CoPilot Live provide turn-by-turn directions as you drive through the city, but it has a pedestrian mode that will get you to your destination quickly on foot. With our vast POI database stored “on-board” your phone, you can search for the nearby restaurants, drug stores, or gas stations without incurring any mobile data charges while abroad.

View your route

Already have an itinerary?  Key in the venues or points of interest in CoPilot Live’s Trip Planning feature (under Menu > Plan or Edit Trip) and you’re off!  You can even choose whether you want walking or driving directions.  In case you need them, here are some recommended destinations to add to your itinerary.

Stanley Park, recognized as one of the great parks of the world, is a mile from downtown and only 3.2 miles from the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, BC Place Stadium.  The evergreen oasis of 1,000 acres has landmarks including Lost Lagoon, Prospect Point, Beaver Lake and native totem poles.  The park also has great dining at Prospect Point Café, The Teahouse at Ferguson Point and The Fish House, with spectacular sea and mountain views.  Don’t forget these places are probably going to be packed so make sure to call ahead within your CoPilot Live and book a reservation.  Continue reading ‘Enjoy the sites while visiting Vancouver’

Why don’t men just ask for directions?

Sure we’ve all heard it before but you know you have at least one story that goes something like this:  You’re late for that really important event and you’re now passing that gas station for the third time— the one your male riding companion swears is not the one you saw 20 minutes ago.

Well now there is a simple way to ensure a smoother, better journey with the man in your life.  Introduce him to CoPilot Live.  If he doesn’t want to ask for help from the gas station attendant, the car next to you at the light or the woman walking her dog that you’ve passed 4 times, then CoPilot Live is for him.  It even comes with different voices for him to choose from.  Here’s a tip, introduce him to Frank, he speaks full street names!

So a special message to the all the women out there.  This year instead of yet another heart-shaped box of chocolates or red tie covered with pink hearts, help that man in your life and ultimately avoid any arguments on future journeys by purchasing him CoPilot Live this Valentine’s Day.

Take it from us.  He’s probably going to like it more than the adorable 50 page scrapbook you made for him of detailing every date you ever went on.

And don’t forget, tell us what you love about CoPilot Live for a chance to win today’s daily prize – Free Premium Live Traffic & Fuel Price Services for your CoPilot Live!

Send us a message here on our blog, or if it’s a brief encounter, send us a tweet on http://twitter.com/copilotlive_us
